Road Accident Fund has paid millions to people who were involved in road accidents. Many people have become millionaires over night. Getting the money is not easy though, it takes years running up and down with lawyers. One would plan and say what they going to do with the money once they receive it, but very few people use it wisely. A year or 2 down the line the person is back to being broke and poor, a laughing stock of the community.
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to “the millionaire “.
She lived in a 1 room cottage with her kids and their father for years. One of the kids got hit by a car and got injured, and that’s how they got to apply for the money. The father was a taxi rank manager and he later on passed away. Years went by, still living in a cottage with her kids until that one day when she received a million from RAF and the whole community knew about it. That’s kasi life, news travel fast.
She bought a house that was next to the cottages, at the back she built what was going to be a tuck shop. Bought a second hand car even though she couldn’t drive, bought clothes for the kids, gave her “inyanga” (traditional healer)R200 000 because she believed that she got the money because of her. She also got a boyfriend that was from another country, the boyfriend drove the car since she didn’t know how to drive, she never walked on foot. If she wasn’t with the boyfriend she was at her inyangas place where they drank almost everyday (apparently that’s what the ancestors wanted). Her pride grew even bigger (well she was full of pride because even when the father of her kids was still alive, you’d swear she had shares at the taxi rank).
Time went by she was living the life, but the house still wasn’t fixed ( it needed fixing since it was an old house). The building that was supposed to be a tuck shop was still empty and she no longer went to work. The boyfriend was still there driving the car and so was inyanga and the drinking. Months went by and things changed, the money was finished! She never opened a tuck shop and I heard that the boyfriend disappeared with the car, she could no longer afford petrol after all. She became the laughing stock of the community (well she still is), people make examples about her. The only thing she has now is the house ( at least she has a roof over her head), friends became less and so was the pride. She is no longer ashamed to shout at people and ask them to find her work. That’s how bad things are. Well people still call her the millionaire .
